Many people today feel unfulfilled in their work or some area of their life. This impacts their health, relationships and the quality of their work. Studies show that when people have a vision and link their purpose to their work, they are happier, productivity improves, profitability increases and the workplace is more enjoyable.
Yet while some may have written a vision and mission statement at a place of work, its framed it on the wall somewhere, gets passed by as a novelty – just words on paper – with no real effect.
If you want to build a house, normally you would give your ideas to an architect, get the plans, take them to a contractor and build the house, right? You wouldn’t go through the process to just frame and possibly hang the plans on a wall, out of sight and mind, would you? Of course not.
Yet what about having a plan for our lives?
I love the old movie Ground Hog Day – its so apropos at times. We get up, move through our days more or less by default, reacting to whatever circumstances come our way and believe that’s just the way that it is. Well, certainly that’s 1 way, yet doesn’t have to be the way.
Most of us put more energy into planning vacations than we do our lives.
