If you’re looking for truth, seeking the truth from media is like asking the warden for the keys to the jail cell.

It’s starting to seem to me that seeking the truth from media is like asking the warden for the keys to the jail cell.

Have you found that the media has become be less balanced and more 1 sided?  Whether or not we agree with the content, that’s certainly my impression. As a lawyer, I like to look at many sides to an issue and make my own choices and decisions. That’s almost impossible now, based on what is coming across the wires, without some digging into alternative websites.  How many of us do that?

When I was a little girl, I remember parroting my mum’s opinion of something (she was my “authority”!), and I also remember the moment I became aware of doing this and that it wasn’t my own opinion.  I must admit that it stopped me in my tracks.

I’m hearing a lot of parroting going on these days, with the source being the media most folks listen to or read, and then share or retweet etc. … It all has the same flavor and texture. I wonder whether, as a collective, we may be losing our ability for critical thought, or allowing it to become dormant….

I’ve started listening more critically. It seems to be one voice or perspective, that speaks through many outlets. As a result, I now listen to “news” for what the “powers that be” (whoever is making decisions for content) think I ought to know, rather than for the truth of what is actually going on.

How about you?
